Since the 2019-2020 Serie A season has been postponed and probably won’t return, it’s time to take stock of how everyone on Juventus performed.

Once again, Juventus had one of the top defenses in Serie A, as only Lazio, who were one point behind the Bianconeri in the league table upon the postponement of the 2019-2020 season, allowed fewer goals. Juve were thus tied in second with Inter Milan with 24 goals allowed, but the caveat there is Juve’s defense played one more game than Inter’s.

With less than one goal allowed per match, the Bianconeri had no trouble keeping opponents off the scoresheet and boasted the league’s best keeper in Wojciech Szczęsny.

Here are the full grades for every defender from the 2019-2020 season.

CB Daniele Rugani

Backup center back Daniele Rugani only appeared in three Serie A games for the Bianconeri, but he was quite solid when on the pitch. According to WhoScored.com, the 25-year-old defender averaged a whopping 1.7 interceptions per game. And according to FBRef.com, no player on Juventus averaged more clearances per 90 minutes than Rugani’s 5.71.

He’s a consistent player and everything you could hope for from a backup center back. Rugani would definitely be a starter on most teams in Serie A, so Juve are fortunate to have the Italian as a backup option.

Grade: B-
