CB Matthijs de Ligt

Juventus center back Matthijs de Ligt is one of the top defenders in Serie A, and he’s honestly adjusted well to the most difficult league to play in tactically and defensively. De Ligt is an ideal partner for the more experienced Leonardo Bonucci, and he put in a lot of hard work in the 2-0 win over Bologna.

The former Ajax captain blocked three shots, cleared six balls, and intercepted three passes in a dominant display. It’s easy to overlook how brilliant de Ligt was in this clean sheet, but he was just as instrumental to the win as Paulo Dybala and Federico Bernardeschi in the attack. He continues to impress at the heart of the Bianconeri’s back four.

CB Leonardo Bonucci

At 33, Leonardo Bonucci is still going strong for Juve. He made no mistakes against Bologna, working well with left back Mattia De Sciglio to make sure that Bologna’s star player Riccardo Orsolini had no opportunities to punish Juventus on the break.

The Italian center back didn’t make nearly as many interventions as his partner de Ligt, but the star man did block two shots, including one crucial stop near the end of the game. Bonucci’s consistency makes him a valuable member of one of Europe’s best defenses.
