Douglas Costa shines

Douglas Costa was clearly the best player on the pitch for Juventus, even though many fans went ahead and anointed Cristiano Ronaldo as the Man of the Match for scoring a penalty and recording two assists that weren’t exactly impressive (one was a simple pass for Paulo Dybala’s screamer and the other a deflection).

But Costa was the standout, changing the complexion of the game as a substitute. Juve were tied 0-0 before Costa entered the game for Rabiot in the 52nd minute, and then Dybala’s goal came one minute later.

The former Bayern star was energetic and skillful, tirelessly taking on defenders and creating chances for others. According to WhoScored.com, Douglas Costa had eight dribbles completed and five key passes in less than one half of action.

Federico Bernardeschi is hard to trust

On Monday, Federico Bernardeschi distinguished himself as the best player on the pitch for Juventus, creating loads of chances for his teammates, including the assist for Paulo Dybala’s excellent goal.

Bernardeschi was less than impressive against Lecce, as Douglas Costa needed to come in and make things happen on that right side. The Italian attacker was called offsides three times, showing no positional awareness on any of those offsides. Bernardeschi constantly lost possession and was the least threatening attacking player on the pitch in the first half. Inconsistency has been the story of Bernardeschi’s career in Turin.
