Thiago Alcantara is one of the best center midfielders in Europe, and Juventus are interested.
Juventus have acquired Arthur Melo from Barcelona in a swap deal involving Miralem Pjanic, but they still want to add more talent to their midfield. Rodrigo Bentancur will be an important young player next to Arthur and will inherit the regista role for the Bianconeri, but those are the only two options Maurizio Sarri should see as regular starters in a team intent on winning the Champions League.
The club needs to make major upgrades this summer. Nicolo Zaniolo and other Serie A players are on the list, but the Bianconeri are now eyeing an even bigger star who could transform Juve’s midfield from “subpar” to “elite”.
According to a report from Tutto Juve, the Black and Whites are now the latest team to consider signing Thiago Alcantara, who is expected to move on from Bayern Munich this year.
Thiago has been the Bundesliga’s most under-appreciated superstar over the past few years, playing as key of a role in Bayern’s back-to-back doubles as Robert Lewandowski. He just never gets the credit for his elite passing, football IQ, defending, and technical class in the final third.
Liverpool have been linked with Thiago the most, and he could be a great fit for the Reds, who want to get back to their Champions League winning ways.
Thiago at Juventus, though, could be the real deal to watch. Imagine him in Serie A, disrupting passing lanes and conjuring up key passes for superstars Cristiano Ronaldo and Paulo Dybala.
Affording Thiago will be difficult, though. Juve are an ambitious club with deep pockets, but Bayern won’t ask for too steep of a discount, even in this market and even with a player of Thiago’s stature wanting to leave. Furthermore, Juve also have to worry about playing the deep playmaker’s salary, too.
Still, a midfield trio of Thiago, Bentancur, and Arthur is one worth driving for. Thiago could be the catalyst that wins the Old Lady a Champions League title.
