Juventus Transfers: Maurizio Sarri isn’t the only one who wants Jorginho

Chelsea holding midfielder Jorginho is starting to look more and more like Juventus’ top target.

Juventus need to sign a new regista this summer. They did well to trade Miralem Pjanic to FC Barcelona for the younger and better Arthur Melo, but Rodrigo Bentancur is more of a wide midfielder with his running and skill-set. Juve need to find a more ideal regista.

Jorginho has unsurprisingly been linked to Maurizio Sarri and the Bianconeri, given that he’s followed Sarri to Chelsea in the past after their success together at Napoli. But the Sarri and Jorginho rumors are starting to have more smoke.

According to a report from Tuttosport’s Filippo Cornacchia, Chief Football Officer Fabio Paratici wants to give Sarri someone who can fit his system. He wants to sign someone who is strong at dribbling and defending and makes the right decisions off the ball.

The top candidate? None other than Jorginho.

It makes too much sense for Juventus. Beyond the familiarity Jorginho has with Sarri, he is indeed an excellent player. It’s easy to overlook Jorginho because of how much his game is predicated on being a quiet leader who passes well, keeps the team’s shape, and helps others shine.

But that’s exactly the kind of player Juve need in the middle of the park, especially since they will be getting younger and adding players like Arthur. In Bentancur and Arthur, Sarri will have two dynamic midfielders who can move up and down the pitch. But in the middle, the Bianconeri need someone with Jorginho’s technical quality, range of passing, and stability.

It’s hard to see there being a better option Juve could conceivably buy than Jorginho. No, Chelsea won’t let him go for cheap, but they should be willing to let him go. They have young midfielders waiting to play, and Frank Lampard doesn’t seem to value Jorginho as much as he should.

Meanwhile, Sarri would love a reunion. If Paratici is ready to make a swoop for the defensive midfielder, then the only thing stopping this move will be cost.
