Juventus send unfair swap deal for Nicolo Zaniolo
Juventus have identified Nicolo Zaniolo as one of their top targets this summer, but it may be impossible to get him.
Already, Juventus have made one move in the 2020 summer transfer window to help set the table for the future, trading regista Miralem Pjanic to Barcelona for Arthur Melo. But they want to make more moves, both in midfield and at the forward positions, to gear up for a real run at the Champions League title with Cristiano Ronaldo still highly effective.
Juve’s latest top target is Nicolo Zaniolo, who is an attacking player. Zaniolo can be an attacking midfielder or right winger for the Bianconeri, depending on what Maurizio Sarri needs and what he feels the Roma man offers most.
Based on Fabrizio Roman’s reporting, Roma are not interesting in selling Zaniolo right now. But the Bianconeri seem to be pushing hard, even as Roma drive a hard – if not impossible – bargain for the talented 21-year-old.
According to a report from Sportsmediaset, Juventus have submitted a new offer to Roma for Nicolo Zaniolo, and, to be honest, this isn’t going to get the job done.
Sportsmediaset say that the Bianconeri have offered right winger Federico Bernardeschi and 22-year-old center back Cristian Romero, who played on loan at Genoa in 2019-2020.
Per the report, Juve would add cash to this offer, knowing full well both players are below Zaniolo’s evaluation. But it would still take quite a bit of cash from the Bianconeri to bridge this rather wide gap in value.
Neither player is likely to interest Roma, who would want a minimum of 60 million euros for Zaniolo. At the most generous evaluation, Federico Bernardeschi wouldn’t be worth more than half that amount, and Romero alone is unlikely to move the meter much as a center back who doesn’t seem to hold much value to Juve.
If Juve want a player of inestimable value to Roma in Zaniolo, then they must likewise give up more than two players they don’t really want. Roma shouldn’t sell their star for anything less than he’s worth, even in this economy, and Bernardeschi is just as underwhelming to them as he is to the Juventini.
