Juventus are looking to add more attacking talent to their midfield, and they are eyeing Giovani Lo Celso as an option.
One year after Tottenham signed him from Real Betis, former PSG midfielder Giovani Lo Celso has landed on Juventus‘ radar.
The Bianconeri are looking to make sweeping upgrades this summer in an effort to be much more competitive in the UEFA Champions League. They suffered an embarrassing elimination at the hands of Lyon in the Round of 16 this year, and Cristiano Ronaldo will certainly not settle for another disappointing 2020-2021 campaign.
According to a report from IlBianconero.com, Juventus CFO Fabio Paratici would like to sign Giovani Lo Celso from Tottenham to be the midfield upgrade Andrea Pirlo is looking for.
The Bianconeri have already acquired Arthur Melo in a trade with Barcelona, sending La Blaugrana veteran regista Miralem Pjanic. Arthur is penciled in as a starter alongside Rodrigo Bentancur, but the third spot is up for grabs. And there’s precious little depth elsewhere, especially if Aaron Ramsey is transferred.
Giovani Lo Celso would be a big upgrade for Juventus
Lo Celso would be a big upgrade over Ramsey and would also start on the left over Adrien Rabiot, who profiles more ideally as a top backup for Juventus.
The 24-year-old interests Paratici and Juve, but he will be difficult to sign. Tottenham paid around 30 million euros for Lo Celso last summer, and he is one of their most talented players. His youth gives him upside, and even IlBianconero.com report that Jose Mourinho does not want to sell.
So Juventus would have to make a very compelling offer to coax Tottenham into selling Lo Celso. He didn’t have the best first year at Spurs, though, and he could be more interested in playing for a bigger club like Juve. In Turin, Lo Celso would also play alongside Cristiano Ronaldo and Paulo Dybala, which would be a huge plus.
A Lo Celso transfer is unlikely, but it is definitely a situation for Juventus fans to keep a close eye on. The player is a game-changing talent in the midfield, even if his 2019-2020 season in the Premier League was not ideal.
