Juventus have been linked to Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar, but they don’t seem to be pursuing him aggressively.
Although Juventus must make major upgrades in the summer transfer window, they are caught in a delicate position when it comes to which targets they can pursue. The best and youngest players will yield the biggest upgrades, especially over the long term, but they cannot make many of these transfers due to the club’s current financial situation.
Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar would be a dream signing in every sense. The 22-year-old recorded four assists in the Champions League this season, including one against Juventus. He tore up the Old Lady in the first leg with three key passes and three dribbles completed, per WhoScored.com. And then he added a jaw-dropping six dribbles completed with three fouls drawn in the second leg.
Juve would get a superstar in Aouar, but he won’t come cheap. He will cost upwards of 50 million euros, and his price isn’t going to get any cheaper now that the secret is out following his huge Champions League knockout stage performances.
Juventus have not sent an official offer for Houssem Aouar
According to a report from TuttoJuve.com’s Mirko Di Natale, Juventus have not made any official offers for Houssem Aouar yet. And now, they have to contend with interest from “two important clubs”, who have, per Di Natale, shown “concrete” interest in the 22-year-old.
Aouar is the kind of player who can change a midfield with his presence and will be a world-class player in the future, if he isn’t considered world-class already. Based on what he did to clubs like Juventus, Manchester City, and even Bayern Munich in defeat in the Champions League, Aouar is already among the best midfielders in the world. Hence why Juventus and two other big clubs want to sign him.
Whether it’s PSG, Real Madrid, Juve, or another powerhouse club, Aouar will be playing football at the highest level for the next several years. The Bianconeri may not have the money to sign him or the players Lyon would want in a swap deal (it’s unlikely they want a swap anyway), but it would be wise for them to do their best to sign Aouar.
