Juventus Transfers: La Liga club eyeing two defenders
Juventus are looking to make some sales this summer to facilitate their top transfer targets, and they could make some deals with a La Liga club.
There are two players Juventus want to sell first in order to slash their wage budget and part ways with two players who are not nearly of starting quality: Gonzalo Higuain and Sami Khedira. And after those two players, defenders Daniele Rugani and Mattia De Sciglio seem to be at the top of the transfer list.
When Rugani is in the lineup, Juventus allow more than two goals per game, which is absolutely abysmal. Rugani is clearly worse than all the other center backs in the squad. Meanwhile, Mattia De Sciglio is a strong defensive presence at fullback, but he offers little in the attack. He does not fit the Bianconeri, and, worse yet, he has been playing on the left instead of the right since the club has more right backs than left backs.
Both Rugani and De Sciglio could easily leave this summer, and Tuttosport’s Filippo Cornacchia reports that Valencia have interest in both players.
Valencia might not be able to afford Daniele Rugani or Mattia De Sciglio
Valencia are in a huge financial crisis, though, to the point where everyone but Jose Gaya seems to be up for sale. The club has already sold midfielders Dani Parejo and Francis Coquelin to rivals Villarreal at a massive discount, so it’s hard to see them buying a player from Juventus in De Sciglio or Rugani.
But it’s interesting to note something in Tuttosport’s article. They say that Valencia want to use Maxi Gomez in order to acquire Rugani. Gomez was recently acquired in a trade with Celta Vigo involving Santi Mina, and he is one of the best young attacking players in La Liga, even if he didn’t have a great 2019-2020 season.
Tuttosport, though, says that Juve aren’t interested in Gomez and want cash. But maybe they could use Gomez as their No. 9. It makes sense that they’d prefer cash so they can sign a more proven No. 9 who can mesh better with Cristiano Ronaldo and Paulo Dybala, though it seems difficult for Valencia to come up with the money for Rugani. He was poor last season, but he’s still only 26 and has a good pedigree; he will still likely cost more than 10 million euros.
