Juventus right winger Federico Bernardeschi could be sold this summer, but perhaps he will find a new role with the first team.

This summer, Juventus have already acquired two young midfielders in Arthur Melo and Weston McKennie. They are set on getting a new striker, looking into options at fullback, and potentially interested in making a swap at wide forward.

Federico Bernardeschi has been tossed around as a player whom Juve could use as makeweight in a swap deal. Thomas Partey and Arkadiusz Milik were ideas, but now that neither transfer looks likely, Bernardeschi could stay if Premier League teams are put off by his poor 2019-2020 season.

The former Fiorentina man has his technical limitations, but he’s a great athlete who can progress play. Nobody has a negative thing to say about Bernardeschi’s work rate, just his consistency and whether he has the end product to play in the final third.

According to a report from TuttoSport.com’s Antonino Milone, Andrea Pirlo might have a genius plan to get the most out of Federico Bernardeschi.

Juventus could change their formation under Andrea Pirlo

Pirlo seems to be ready to shift his team to a 3-5-2 formation, which could fit a lot of current Juventus players better. And Bernardeschi could benefit greatly by being converted from a right winger to a wing back.

In that case, Bernardeschi probably wouldn’t start on the right side as a left-footer to be an inverted right wing back, since Juan Cuadrado would be perfect for that position. But they could move him to the left, where he would be a better wing back than the more defensive Alex Sandro.

It’s a situation to monitor closely. Bernardeschi has been disappointing in Turin, but it’s easy to forget that he’s still only 26. His meager tally of one goal and one assist as a winger playing alongside Paulo Dybala and Cristiano Ronaldo for over 1,500 minutes shows that this isn’t the position for him. Perhaps he will experience a career renaissance for Juventus at wing back.
