Juventus Transfers: Backup center back receiving Manchester City interest
Juventus are still looking to make some more sales as the transfer window closes, and a couple of seldom-used defenders are near the top of the list.
The Bianconeri have already enjoyed an active, productive transfer window under new manager Andrea Pirlo. Juventus traded for Arthur Melo in midfield and signed both Weston McKennie and former striker Alvaro Morata on loan. McKennie is already paying dividends.
They have also moved on from Gonzalo Higuain and are getting closer to officially parting ways with another declining, expensive backup player in Sami Khedira.
But Juventus are still looking to sell a couple of more players, such as ineffective defenders Mattia De Sciglio and Daniele Rugani.
Last season, Juve’s defense was markedly worse with Rugani in the lineup, so finding a team interested in him would be fantastic. A swap deal for Arsenal right back Hector Bellerin was thrown around, but that was never really realistic.
Juventus center back Daniele Rugani could be a good backup for Manchester City
Per a report from Tuttosport, via Adam Booker of SI.com’s City Xtra, Manchester City “cannot be ruled out” as a landing spot for Daniele Rugani.
City’s interest in Rugani seems somewhat surprising, but he could be a good buy-low fit for Pep Guardiola. Rugani isn’t an awful player, as much as it has seemed that way recently for him in Turin, but he needs a change of scenery.
He could be a good backup option for Guardiola, as City need the depth at center back. What the player lacks in physicality, he makes up for in other areas of defending. Rugani is also good on the ball and regularly completes nearly 90 percent of his passes in Serie A.
Tuttosport indicates that Rugani could go for between 20 and 25 million euros, which is a price Juventus would gladly take in this market. Manchester City will always have to pay a good fee for any player they want, even someone on the “out” list like Rugani, so Juventini will hope this rumor has legs to it.
