Juventus already made a deal with Barcelona this summer to acquire Arthur Melo, but could they add another young star in 2021?
The 2020 summer transfer window ended up being a busy one for Juventus, as they added some serious star power for the upcoming season. Juve acquired Arthur Melo in a swap deal with Barcelona for the aging Miralem Pjanic, picked up Weston McKennie on loan, got Dejan Kulusevski back, reunited with Alvaro Morata, and inked Fiorentina man Federico Chiesa.
But Juve won’t be done thinking about how to add more star power to their team in future transfer windows. When one window ends, the discussions about the next window begin.
According to a report from Radio Catalunya, via TuttoJuve.com’s Giuseppe Giannone, FC Barcelona star forward Ousmane Dembele wants to play in Serie A and likes Juventus. Per the report, the possibility of joining Juve in 2021 or even 2022 when his contract expires is a big reason why he declined interest from Manchester United.
Dembele was once the best young player in the world at Rennes and Borussia Dortmund with a combined 18 goals and 17 assists in his two seasons with the Ligue 1 and Bundesliga clubs. After lighting it up with the Black and Yellows, Dembele got his move to Barcelona.
Ousmane Dembele could be a world-class player for Juventus
He’s shown glimpses of his world-class ability for La Blaugrana, but he hasn’t settled due to injuries and laughable coaching decisions.
When healthy, Dembele was excellent from 2017 to 2019, averaging at least 1.6 key passes per game and 2.3 dribbles completed per game, according to WhoScored.com, in those league seasons. And Dembele had eight goals with five assists in 1,673 La Liga minutes in 2018-2019.
Juventus don’t need wide forwards with Paulo Dybala, Cristiano Ronaldo, Chiesa, and Kulusevski entrenched. But Dembele, at the right price, would be a huge bounce-back signing. If he can stay healthy and have the backing of a competent organization, Dembele can be world-class again.
