Juventus were unsurprisingly represented in WhoScored.com’s Serie A Team of the Year, but are two players enough?

The year 2020 was a tumultuous one for football, and Juventus were not excluded from the bumps on the road. After winning the Scudetto but struggling in the Champions League, Juve fired Maurizio Sarri and turned to unproven manager – but legendary player – Andrea Pirlo as the right man to lead a youth movement, which included acquiring the likes of Federico Chiesa, Arthur Melo, and Weston McKennie this summer.

So far, Juve’s start to the 2020-2021 season has not been ideal, as anything after first place is unacceptable to the winners of nine straight Scudetti. But there are positives. The young players, specifically Chiesa, are showing quality, and, of course, Cristiano Ronaldo is leading the way with his goals.

It’s not surprising to see that Serie A’s current leader in goals made WhoScored.com’s Serie A Team of the Year for 2020. You can view the full XI below.

It’s also wonderful to see that his teammate Juan Cuadrado joined him at right back. A fullback and wide midfielder, Cuadrado has been one of Juve’s three best players in 2020-2021 alongside Ronaldo and Alvaro Morata. His work rate, chance creation, creativity, dribbling, and crossing are all invaluable to Juventus. And it is important that WhoScored rightfully gave him a place in this XI.

Looking across the XI, there are several notable names. Like Ronaldo, Zlatan Ibrahimovic is scoring loads of goals even at his age. Papu Gomez is on his way out of Atalanta. Rodrigo De Paul is a legitimate world-class midfielder and on Juve’s transfer radar. And what more praise can we lavish on Zlatan’s trio of teammates, who have all played crucial roles in the Rossoneri moving into first place this season?

Juventus are supposed to be the powerhouse club of Italy, though, so only having two players in this XI isn’t cutting it. The likes of Matthijs de Ligt, Paulo Dybala, and Wojciech Szczesny are more than capable of being in this group next year. And there are other possible breakout stars like Arthur and Merih Demiral. If he keeps it up, Morata could be on here after 2021, too.
