Papu Gomez can leave Atalanta this winter after a falling-out with the manager, and Juventus are wisely interested.

Juventus have one creative midfielder in Aaron Ramsey, who showed his class in the attack as a left midfielder in the Bianconeri’s first win a 2021, a 4-1 blowout over Udinese.

However, Juve should sign another midfielder with creativity. We all know the dream options for the Black and Whites are Houssem Aouar, Paul Pogba, Manuel Locatelli, and Rodrigo De Paul, but that quartet probably won’t be available until the summer transfer market.

This winter, Juventus could sign an attacking-minded midfielder in Atalanta’s Papu Gomez, who is basically guaranteed to leave on a cheap transfer this winter after a public split with manager Gian Piero Gasperini.

Gomez is a legend for Atalanta and probably the best attacking midfielder in Serie A. According to a report from Gianluca Di Marzio, Juventus are “monitoring the situation”.

Could Juventus swap Federico Bernardeschi for Atalanta’s Papu Gomez?

Di Marzio mentions that Federico Bernardeschi, who has been told he can leave this winter and is a top priority to sell alongside Sami Khedira, could be included in a swap deal for Gomez. Given Gomez’s age of 32, nearing 33, Juventus could possibly pull off a swap with no cash added. Gomez is guaranteed to leave, too, and that makes up for Bernardeschi not being nearly the same caliber of player.

Last season, Gomez had a whopping seven goals and 16 assists and contributed 18 goals to Atalanta the year before. He is a world-class player and brings a level of technical quality and creativity that Juventus need behind Cristiano Ronaldo and Paulo Dybala.

Bernardeschi could head elsewhere, with Di Marzio mentioning ambitious Bundesliga side Hertha Berlin as a possible destination, but he is a player to watch as the January transfer market continues and the interest in Gomez potentially heats up.

It’s great to see that Juventus are involved in the sweepstakes for such a talented, affordable player. They probably cannot sign a star of the future like Locatelli or Aouar in the near future, so Gomez could be the boost they need in the Champions League knockout stages this year.
