Juventus followed up their 4-1 win over Udinese this weekend with a thorough performance at the San Siro, defeating the league leaders 3-1.

Maybe Juventus are ready to play their best football under Andrea Pirlo in 2021.

We knew the early going would be tough for the Bianconeri with a new manager and a host of new players. Those new recruits were necessary to inject young blood into the Old Lady, and it was only fitting that two of them, Federico Chiesa and substitute Weston McKennie, provided the goals in the 3-1 win.

Here are the player ratings for Juventus following their dream 3-1 victory against Milan at the San Siro, which serves as a statement to the rest of Serie A that they are still very much title contenders despite being outside the top three.

GK Wojciech Szczesny

Wojciech Szczesny really stepped it up on Wednesday night. He hadn’t been at his absolute best yet this season, but his handling and reflexes were top-notch in this rivalry match. Szczesny had only a couple of spotty moments with his distribution, but, otherwise, he was brilliant in between the sticks.

LB Gianluca Frabotta

Before the match, I wasn’t sure if Gianluca Frabotta had the quality to go toe-to-toe with Milan, but he proved me wrong. Frabotta did well against the highly athletic Samu Castillejo and wasn’t bad supporting the attack either.

CB Leonardo Bonucci

Leonardo Bonucci needed to play a clean, mistake-free game and lead from the back. He did exactly that on Matchday 16, showing Juventini the quality he can bring to the side. Per WhoScored.com, Bonucci recorded five clearances.

CB Matthijs de Ligt

Another strong performance from the young center back. Matthijs de Ligt is a future captain for Juventus and already one of the best defenders in Serie A, if not THE best. De Ligt was solid in possession and always put himself on the line when defending. He had some crucial blocks against Milan’s star player Hakan Calhanoglu.

RB Danilo

Danilo was unlucky to get booked after he made a perfect challenge during a counterattack, and he had more than a few great tackles in this victory. He started at right back and rewarded Andrea Pirlo with accurate passing and excellent defending. Danilo won’t offer much going forward at fullback since he lacks speed, but his defensive work more than makes up for it.

LM Aaron Ramsey

After playing so well for Juventus this weekend vs. Udinese, I thought Aaron Ramsey took a step back at Milan. His team won, but Ramsey wasn’t much of a factor in this victory. He worked very hard defensively, but his end product in the attack was below-average. Ramsey is important to the team creatively, but Juve need to look for an upgrade. Why? Well as we saw this week, whenever he takes a step forward, he takes a step back seemingly one game later. Ramsey also fails to step up in the biggest matches.

CM Adrien Rabiot

Adrien Rabiot may have been fouled by Hakan Calhanoglu on the play that led to Milan’s lone goal of the match, but that was one of his only big involvement, other than one hard-fought pass to Cristiano Ronaldo on the break and a yellow card. The French center midfielder won four dribbles and completed 96 percent of his passes, but his lack of discipline and threat in the attacking third are further indications that Juve may want to find someone better.

Rating: 6.0 out of 10

CM Rodrigo Bentancur

Rodrigo Bentancur was quite poor in this match, and he is very lucky Milan were so wasteful in front of goal. He made two critical errors that could have led to goals for the Rossoneri. It’s frustrating watching how Bentancur is unable to truly break out as a star player for the Bianconeri. He fought hard but was sloppy with his passing. Bentancur could have been sent off for a late, reckless challenge on Castillejo as well.

RM Federico Chiesa

Federico Chiesa was the obvious Man of the Match, and Juventus would not have won without him. That’s not an exaggeration. He hit the post with a wonderful shot, then scored the opener with another good finish to the far post. Chiesa’s second goal was a beauty, as he snuck the ball between two defenders and finessed it to the far post beyond Gianluca Donarumma’s outstretched gloves. He is a fan favorite and a matchwinner for the Bianconeri.

FW Cristiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo had a very subdued performance by his standards, but, thankfully, Paulo Dybala and Chiesa stepped up at the San Siro. Ronaldo is allowed to have off games on the scoresheet, since he’s so good in nearly every other match. After all, he just had two goals and an assist in the win over Udinese. Ronaldo worked hard for the team and had a couple of bright moments, though. He had three key passes, two dribbles completed, and four fouls drawn. It wasn’t his best match, but he wasn’t bad either, to be honest.

FW Paulo Dybala

An excellent performance from La Joya. He wasn’t perfect, but Paulo Dybala was the second-best player on the pitch for Juventus alongside the man at the double, Chiesa. Dybala set up the first goal with a delightful flick and was always looking to wreak havoc on the counterattack. The 27-year-old had three key passes, three dribbles completed, and two fouls drawn.
