Juventus could miss out on the signing of Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland in the next summer transfer window.
When taking a firm glance at the frontline of the current Juventus team, one might find an indomitable Cristiano Ronaldo and a less-indomitable Alvaro Morata; and then comes the likes of Dejan Kulusevski and Paulo Dybala, who incline towards the genre of natural playmakers.
Apart from Ronaldo—now 36, no one possesses that habitual goalscoring aura in the current Bianconeri roster. And the need for a marksman becomes notable with each passing season.
If rumours concerning the Italian club and strikers are something to go by, Juventus’ name has been linked with Borussia Dortmund forward, Erling Haaland, several times in the past few months.
However, the recent set of stories could well splash cold water on the hopes of the Old Lady, with Manchester City preparing a bombastic offer in a bid to fend away the interest from other suitors that include the name of Juventus.
Can Juventus compete with Manchester City for Erling Haaland?
According to a report from the Mirror, Pep Guardiola’s Man City are considering making a £100 million bid this summer to lure the 20-year-old Norwegian striker.
Haaland joined Borussia Dortmund from RB Salzburg in a deal that saw his agent, Mino Raiola, and his father, Alf-Inge Haaland, earning €10 million each as the full amount of commission last January.
Ever since moving to the German Bundesliga side, Haaland has evolved into a world-class goalscorer, amassing 38 goals from 39 matches across all competitions thus far.
And in the process, he has garnered a plethora of interest from the elite clubs all around the continent.
The 20-year-old Leeds-born forward has a release clause of €75 million in his current Borussia Dortmund contract. However, it won’t be available for activation before June 2022.
Hence, any team interested in the signature of Haaland will have to pay more than what the release clause indicates to secure his services next summer.
Amidst the coronavirus pandemic, Juventus keep losing millions of matchday revenues and will continue to lose for the foreseeable future. And evaluating all these financial aspects, it can be said that Juventus would not be able to afford the signature of Haaland next summer.
