Cristiano Ronaldo has been the epitome of a superstar player since signing for Juventus in the summer 2018 transfer window. He is currently Serie A’s leading goal-scorer with 16 goals and is well on his way to collecting more individual awards, including the Capocannoniere, upon the conclusion of the 2020-2021 campaign.

The 36-year-old forward’s contract will run out at the end of the 2021-2022 season, so Juventini are keeping a watchful eye on any news regarding his future. There’s optimism Ronaldo will stay in Turin, but it won’t be easy to keep him in this economy.

That’s because a report from Sportmediaset states that Cristiano Ronaldo wants at least 30 million euros per year from Juventus in order to re-sign, via TuttoMercatoWeb.com’s Pietro Lazzerini (article in Italian).

This figure is the current amount of money Ronaldo makes from the Bianconeri. He is willing to remain with the club, but Sportmediaset report that he would not take any discounts from Juve in order to stick around.

Cristiano Ronaldo would want Juventus to value him appropriately

None of that should come as a surprise to Juventus. Ronaldo has always seemed happy with the club, and Andrea Pirlo’s management has now become a positive in Juve keeping the No. 7. He is certainly a more appealing manager to a superstar player than Maurizio Sarri.

But a discount? Ronaldo has options. He has no reason to lower his valuation to any club, even a club he likes. Again, that should not come as a surprise to anyone who has followed Ronaldo’s career since joining Manchester United, moving on to Real Madrid, and then going to Juventus. He wants to be valued like the global superstar he is.

Next. Juventus is trending in the right direction. dark

Juventini should remain optimistic about Ronaldo remaining with the club and pursuing Champions League gold. And he has shown no signs of slowing down. However, if the Bianconeri cannot afford to meet Ronaldo’s demands as the economic crisis continues and other needs pop up, Juve are in a better position to walk away in 2021 than they were in 2020 after bolstering their squad with young talent. That said, it’s clear that they do rely on Ronaldo. And this may even be something of an understatement.
