Juventus could use some more playmaking juice in their lineup. Their priority in the summer 2021 transfer window will be signing a superstar midfielder, and the likes of Paul Pogba and Houssem Aouar will likely be favored due to their game-changing ability in the attacking end. Neither Adrien Rabiot nor Rodrigo Bentancur have inspired in that phase of the game, while true attacking midfielder Aaron Ramsey is too injury-prone to be relied on.

If the Bianconeri decide to go for an attacking midfielder after failing to steal away Papu Gomez from Atalanta, they could make a play for a man who may now have taken the mantle from Gomez as Serie A’s best playmaker.

Hakan Calhanoglu has been one of the key men in Milan’s march to the top of the league table. He’s always been renowned for his ability on direct and indirect set pieces, but he is now creating like never before.

The former Bundesliga star has eight assists this season, and he’s already been linked with Juventus before the start of 2021.

Hakan Calhanoglu could help swing the balance of power more to Juventus

In an interview with TuttoJuve.com’s Mirko Di Natale, Fanatik’s journalist Yakup Çinar stated that Juventus have a “good chance” at signing Hakan Calhanoglu. Çinar have “serious intentions’ on Calhanoglu’s situation, given that his contract is expiring at the end of the season. The respected journalist believes Juve have the “same” chance at signing the 27-year-old as the Rossoneri.

Calhanoglu is averaging a whopping 3.4 key passes per game and is playing the best football of his life for the resurgent Rossoneri. If he were to flip from Milan to Juventus for free, he could help swing the balance of power more favorably to Turin. He’s been at the heart of so much good for the Rossoneri this season, and nobody can undervalue what his shooting and passing on set pieces bring.

The issue for Juventus will be wages. Calhanoglu won’t come cheap, especially on a “free” transfer. Juve certainly have experience paying high wages for free transfers, looking at Rabiot and Ramsey. But Calhanoglu is more productive than either player. Plus, the ability to hurt a rival in the process may also be tempting for Fabio Paratici and Co.
