Juventus compellingly started their 2021 calendar year, winning the Supercoppa Italiana and recently qualifying for the final of Coppa Italia by beating Inter Milan in a two-legged semi-final.

The Nerazzurri had been the only team to beat the Old Lady since the turn of the year until they faced Napoli last Saturday.

An offensively-toothless Juve side failed to surmount their challenges imposed by Gattuso’s Napoli. They picked up a 1-0 away defeat in Serie A.

On Wednesday, the Bianconeri were up against Porto in the first knockout round of the Champions League. In what was an away leg, Juve received a 2-1 humbling at the hands of their Portuguese counterpart. It was not a happy homecoming for Cristiano Ronaldo by any means.

On top of losing the match, Juventus might miss their first-choice defensive duo of Bonucci and Chiellini for the upcoming fortnight, as told by Sky Sports journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.

Will Juventus keep Radu Drăgușin?

Amidst these on-field conundra, there are several off-field enigmas getting piled upon the shoulders of the Juventus management. One of those includes the uncertain future of the Juventus youngster — Radu Drăgușin.

According to a reputed Italian journalist in Mirko Di Natale (via Max Statman), the 19-year-old has been left free to talk with the clubs interested in securing his services in the next summer transfer window.

Being one of the youngest members of their first team, he has managed to earn four senior appearances from Andrea Pirlo. Drăgușin’s current contract with Juventus will keep him in Turin until June 2021.

As suggested by Di Natale, Drăgușin is determined to continue ‘his adventure’ at Juventus and hence awaits a new contact from the Juve officials.

With Bonucci and Chiellini both injured, Juventus possess only three of their first-team centre-backs in Matthijs de Ligt, Merih Demiral, and Radu Drăgușin. If everything goes well, the partnership of Matthijs de Ligt and Merih Demiral would be covering the absence of Bonucci and Chiellini.

But if things start going south and another main defender gets injured — a very unlikely hypothesis, Juventus will then have no chance but to try the promise of Drăgușin.

However, as of now, the future of the starlet depends on the Bianconeri’s next move.
