Juventus intend to keep Alvaro Morata on their books beyond the 2020/21 campaign.

The Spaniard returned to Turin in the summer after the Bianconeri agreed a rather complex loan deal with Atletico Madrid, merely months after Morata had joined the Spanish club permanently.

The initial deal saw the Italian giants pay Atleti £9.2m for Morata’s services throughout the current campaign, and they’ll have to pay that same fee for every season they have the 28-year-old on loan.

Juve also have the option to buy Morata at the end of this season for £41m, or after a second campaign on loan for about £32m.

Alvaro Morata has been crucial to Juventus this season

While it’s not exactly clear what of the aforementioned options the Old Lady will take up regarding Morata following the conclusion of 2020/21, it seems that the club are nonetheless keen on retaining the Spaniard’s services for the long-haul.

Fabrizio Romano (via JuveFC) first reported the update last week before TuttoJuve’s Mirko Di Natale (via JuveFC) added on Saturday that the Bianconeri intend to renew Morata’s loan despite a downturn in goalscoring form in recent months. It’s understood that the club are “satisfied” with the player’s performance.

The 28-year-old has scored just twice in 11 appearances this calendar year following a sharp start to the season – netting six times in last Autumn’s Champions League group stage.

And although Morata’s form in front of goal has certainly demised as of late, there’s no denying his importance to Andrea Pirlo’s Juve.

The Spaniard’s willingness to run in-behind and stretch defences vertically combined with his underrated link and hold-up play – exemplified by his seven assists in all competitions this term – mean he’s proved key in ensuring Il Maestro’s possession principles are translated onto the field (for the most part). Juve’s improved display in the woeful 2-1 defeat to Porto following Morata’s second-half introduction epitomised what the selfless forward provides.
