There was a time in Juventus‘ recent history when the club faithful got to enjoy the trinity of Paul Pogba, Andrea Pirlo, and Claudio Marchisio running their midfield in an apt way and demolishing opponents one after another week in, week out.
It has truly been a gradual decline as far as the quality of Juve’s midfield is concerned. Even under the management of one of the best midfielders Italy has ever seen, things have not got any better, with the Bianconeri now relying on inconsistent players such as Rodrigo Bentancur, Aaron Ramsey, and Adrien Rabiot for results.
In a midfield including those aforementioned names, there doesn’t persist much hope for development.
However, the likes of Weston McKennie and Arthur Melo have been the bearer of beacon for Juventus at the heart of the field this season. But, substantial alterations are needed and should be implemented sooner rather than later.
Juventus want to sign Valencia star Lee Kang-in this summer
As per a report from Mundo Deportivo (via Football Espana), Juventus are pondering upon making a move for Valencia midfielder Lee Kang-in in the upcoming summer transfer window. Left-footed, Lee is an embodiment of versatility.
The 20-year-old South Korean has played in five different positions on the pitch this season for Los Che, which involves midfield areas as well as both wings and forward roles. A creative midfielder by trade, Lee has been seen playing as a second striker seven times this term.
Despite making 23 appearances (1,167 minutes) for Valencia in all competitions this season, Lee has not been accompanied by a decent output, with the aspiring star recording one goal and four assists in the 2020-21 campaign thus far.
The youngster has his contract renewed until June 2022, meaning the upcoming summer transfer window could present Valencia with the last chance to offload the midfielder in return for a reasonable transfer fee.
The report believes that Juventus are preparing a bid of €15 million to test the air surrounding the Incheon-born asset.
Although signing a youngster is always a significant move for a club possessing Juventus’ ambitions, Lee’s possible inclusion, however, would not provide Andrea Pirlo with the traits he will be needing to totally renovate the team’s midfield and elevate its prowess.
On the other hand, he is only 20 and seemingly not ready to carry the ever-expanding onus of Juventus midfielders. However, should this be a signing for the future, it would be unreasonable not to give the deal a shot.
