It’s the hope that kills you — you might have heard this proverb, perhaps in a footballing context, remember? If not, don’t be stressed! It’s the hope that Juventus fans embraced when their beloved Paulo Dybala hit a praiseworthy left-footed curler to win Juventus the game a fortnight back.

The Bianconeri hosted an enthralling Napoli side that evening. Winning the game was crucial for the men in black and white. Cristiano Ronaldo, as usual, was on the team-sheet, with his long-standing partner in crime, Paulo Dybala, sitting on the substitute bench having just returned from a lengthy injury spell. While warming his seat, La Joya might haven’t thought that his goal would decide the result of the game.

With 69 minutes into the match, the number of Paulo Dybala flashed in green light. He joined the field as Arthur Melo made his way to the dugout. Four minutes later, Dybala’s magic came to life, deceiving almost everyone in the opposing 18-yard box. It was, to be frank, unsavable. Juventus took the 2-0 lead with the charismatic finish at that moment.

But later, Dybala’s strike proved to be the decisive moment of the game as the match ended in a 2-1 scoreline. It might have caused further harassment for the Piedmontese side as well as their boss Andrea Pirlo had not his strike found the back of the net. Dybala’s goal ignited hope among the Juve devotees — the hope for their La Joya‘s potential resurrection after what had been a calm, injury-ravaged 2020-21 season in Europe for the Argentine playmaker.

And it’s Dybala’s that well-cherished swing of the left foot that maybe has kept Juventus in the race for a top-four finish. However, there have been rumours of the Argentinian getting offloaded by the Old Lady in the summer. The talks over a potential extension between the club and Dybala’s entourage have reportedly reached a stalemate, with the player’s current terms ending in June 2022.

That being said, Juventus should not let their diminutive crafter leave, not at any cost in this approaching summer transfer window, but why? Here we have three reasons.

Amid the COVID-19 crisis, Juventus, just like other clubs across the continent and beyond, are losing a large amount of sum on a daily basis. Maybe Juventus are the most affected Italian side from the emergence of the ongoing pandemic, owing to the fact that they have two of the world’s most admired superstars in Cristiano Ronaldo and Paulo Dybala under their ranks.

Liquidity is hard to come by these days, as shown by Andrea Agnelli’s overwhelming willingness to join the new yet failed European Super League project. Juventus accumulated gross revenue of €621.5 million in 2019, recording a loss of €39.9 million. In 2020, the amount of loss has surged to €71.4 million. Things are going to get worse with each passing day as the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) has not yet clarified any fixed date for the supporters to return to the stadiums.

The 2021-22 season is arriving soon. And ahead of the inauguration of the campaign, there will be launches of new jerseys. Supporters will get intrigued, and eventually, buy one or two or maybe three for themselves and nearer ones. Some will buy jerseys with their favourite players’ names on the back. A popular figure around the Turin-based club, Paulo Dybala will see his name getting imprinted on the back of hundred and thousand of Juve shirts.

Let us be honest here, Paulo Dybala means extra revenue. People love to chant his name, purchase scarves with his name and face on them. And at the end of the day, all the money his merchandise brings will go to Juve’s pocket. Dybala brings the attention of the whole footballing world upon him and ultimately the club he represents. From a financial point of view, losing Dybala, irrespective of a transfer fee, in the upcoming summer will be catastrophic.
