Andrea Pirlo cannot breathe easy

Andrea Pirlo received a yellow card for jubilantly celebrating Cristiano Ronaldo’s brace. He won’t care about the booking, though he should care about his job security. Because even though the Biacnoneri defeated Udinese after looking dead in the water, the top four race is still not over yet.

Most importantly, the decision-makers in Turin could not have been impressed with the performance they saw. Ronaldo won the game. Not Pirlo. Not even the team, to be honest. I know, I know, I sound like those annoying “Ronaldo FC” folks, but this was not a good team performance at all. Pirlo had his side looking like a lower-table club in Serie A. Once again, I cannot believe the team I watch every weekend is Juventus.

Juve won, but this narrow win over Udinese that required two late goals from one of the most prolific scorers in the history of the game should do nothing to keep Pirlo’s job safe. I’m not sure if it’s better to fire him or not (I tend to lean towards letting him go, even if I’d feel bad about it), but I do know that you can’t consider this win a “win” for Pirlo. Nothing about the way Juve played in an attacking sense made me feel any differently about the job Pirlo has done tactically.
