Milan GK Gianluigi Donnarumma

Although Juventus have one of the best goalkeepers in Serie A in Wojciech Szczesny, Gianluigi Donnarumma is an opportunity Juve feel they cannot pass up on without doing their due diligence. Donnarumma is one of the most incredible goalkeeper prospects we’ve seen in recent memory, because he already has five years of first-team experience and 211 starts for Milan at the age of 22.

Already one of the top goalkeepers in his league, Donnarumma has the potential to become the world’s best and will be a great keeper for the next decade. Szczesny, on the other hand, is coming off a disappointing season and is 31. He may only have a handful of good years left in him. He’s on the downswing, while Donnarumma has nowhere to go but up.

Donnarumma will be free if Milan cannot keep him, but he will cost a pretty penny in wages. Still, it would be money well-spent for Juventus, and they could recoup the funds by selling off Szczesny. Donnarumma certainly isn’t going to make the switch to Italy’s most prestigious club just to go from being Milan’s starter to Juve’s backup.

This deal has a real chance of happening, even if there is no guarantee Juve can make the books work. As far as free transfers go, this is much, much better than the deals Juventus have gotten themselves into in the past. Donnarumma actually has a chance of being a star.
