GK Gianluigi Buffon

Gianluigi Buffon is a definition of a Juventus legend in goal. The 43-year-old is still one of the better goalkeepers in Serie A. In fact, per FBRef.com, he ranks first in the league in both save percentage (86.7) and goals allowed per 90 minutes (0.57) among players with at least five starts. He benefits from starting in fewer big games than Wojciech Szczesny, but his impressive stats are a clear indicator that he is a quality goalkeeper and stabilizing presence for the Bianconeri.

But maybe Buffon is looking at his current performances for the Old Lady with the belief that he should still give it one last go as a starter. Atalanta have been linked, though, as with Giorgio Chiellini, retirement is also an option.

There are key differences between Buffon’s situation and Chiellini’s. Buffon is older but plays a less physically demanding position and, most importantly, does not have nearly the same injury struggles as his fellow Juventus legend.

We’ll know Buffon’s decision by the end of the season. Until then, Juventini will have to wonder if Buffon could make another move. Except this time, he may prioritize minutes over the Champions League, which was his logic when he briefly played for PSG.
