The Chiellini conundrum

The decision of including Giorgio Chiellini over Leonardo Bonucci in the starting line-up against AC Milan raised a few eyebrows. Everyone was desperate to see how it panned out. And, we are here, criticising Pirlo for his misdeeds. The inclusion of Chiellini was out of the blue.

At 36 years of age, the Juve legend is reportedly pondering upon hanging his boots at the end of the season. And being the manager, Pirlo handed him the duty of keeping a flamboyant AC Milan attack under control.

After his outstretched hand had made contact with the ball, Milan was awarded a penalty in the second half. But thanks to Wojciech Szczesny, Juventus were able to bypass any further humiliation. A defence that concedes three goals never deserve the praise. But the blame is on Andrea Pirlo this time.

He is the man at the helm. And he should have known by now that he couldn’t keep twisting and selecting a different centre-back pairing in every other game. He is as much of a culprit as every member of the starting line-up. Nonetheless, AC Milan fans are overjoyed. Eventually, they have beaten Juventus in Turin for the first time since 2011.
