The future of Cristiano Ronaldo could eventually be at Turin next season

Not so long ago, there were rumours of Cristiano Ronaldo potentially leaving the Old Lady this summer. It would be unfair to claim that those talks have completely faded away after Juventus secured their Champions League football on the final day of the Serie A 2020-21, but those clamours have gone a bit quiet since Juventus carried out what was previously regarded as an “impossible task”.

Signed from Real Madrid for an initial transfer fee of €100 million in the summer of 2018, Cristiano Ronaldo bagged the well-cherished Capocannoniere, having scored 29 goals in Serie A this season. As far as stats from all competitions are concerned, Ronaldo has 36 goals and 4 assists to his name from 44 games.

He was monstrous in front of goal and the sole carrier of Juve’s goalscoring onus during the club’s days of need. Overwhelming, talismanic — we’ll have to borrow a thesaurus if adjective becomes the only way of lauding the five-time Ballon d’Or winner.

The news was that Ronaldo would consider leaving the Turin-based club without the Champions League football. Without UCL, Juventus would rather have no option available but to sell Ronaldo themselves, as affording the expenses of the Portuguese, who earns £52 million per year in wages, would then become more challenging.

But now with the Champions League football secured, things could change drastically. Juventus should be able to afford Ronaldo’s gigantic salary, and the fans could dream of a jolly future with the prodigy, who has already racked up 101 goals from 133 matches (per Transfermarkt) for the Zebre.
