Here we go then, folks! The ratings have been averaged and verified and we’re now ready to reveal Old Juve’s 2020-2021 Player of the Season for Juventus.

We’ve seen Federico Chiesa star in 2021, Juan Cuadrado enjoy a consistent campaign and Cristiano Ronaldo continue to produce in front of goal, but who’ll take home the glittering prize?

Let’s find out!

3rd – Matthijs de Ligt (Average Rating – 6.66)

Lowest Rating – 4.0 (vs Fiorentina – H)

Highest Rating – 8.0 (vs Ferencvaros – H, Barcelona – A, Atalanta – H, Parma – A, Inter – Coppa Italia 2nd Leg, Parma – H, Sassuolo – A, Inter – H)

Despite missing the start of the campaign, Matthijs de Ligt slides in at third place with a 6.66 average rating for the 2020/21 season.

The Dutchman was a near ever-present in the Bianconeri’s formidable backline following his return from a shoulder injury in November. Andrea Pirlo’s ideals ensured de Ligt’s ball-playing capacities were put to the test but the young defender adapted impressively and while possession and positional errors crept in occasionally, this was a fine campaign for de Ligt on the whole.

His ceiling is huge, although a little bit of refinement is required for his freakish potential to be realised. Enter Massimiliano Allegri.

2nd – Federico Chiesa (Average Rating – 6.7)

Lowest Rating – 4.0 (vs Napoli – Supercoppa Italiana, AC Milan – H)

Highest Rating – 9.0 (vs AC Milan – A, Napoli – H)

Here he is, the ever-blossoming superstar.

Federico Chiesa’s 2021 has been nothing short of outstanding, but a slow start to the campaign ensures that the three-time Old Juve Player of the Month doesn’t take home the grand prize. It wasn’t until Juve’s 3-1 triumph over AC Milan in January when Chiesa’s campaign started to ignite.

26 goal contributions in 46 games is a hugely impressive return for a player often criticised for his work in the final third at Fiorentina. The 23-year-old now has the chance to showcase his exciting talent to the world this summer at the Euros.

1st – Cristiano Ronaldo (Average Rating – 6.8)

Lowest Rating – 2.0 (vs AC Milan – H)

Highest Rating – 10 (vs Cagliari – A)

Pipping Chiesa for the award is, of course, Federico Bernard–, no, it’s Cristiano Ronaldo. How boring.

I’ve been a vehement critic of Ronaldo at times this season and was responsible for handing out his lowest rating of the campaign but despite my frequent pessimism, his remarkable production just couldn’t be ignored.

The Capocannoniere victor scored 36 times in 44 appearances last season, helping him to an average rating of 6.8, enough for Ronaldo to claim the Old Juve 2020/21 Player of the Season award.

A question mark surrounds his future in Turin, however.

Who just missed out?

The aforementioned Juan Cuadrado will feel hard done by, with the Colombian’s average rating of 6.61 seeing him just miss out on the top three. Danilo, meanwhile, proved another consistent and versatile performer under Pirlo and notched a 6.58 rating for a fine season in Turin.

Adrien Rabiot’s stellar end to the season helped him to a 6.23 rating after enduring lengthy periods on Pirlo’s bench earlier on in the campaign. Finally, Weston McKennie, an impressive performer towards the end of 2020, claimed a 6.3 rating. Although, minor injuries and an unadvised party inhibited the American throughout the second half of the season.

At the other end of the spectrum, Federico Bernardeschi’s 4.875 proved the lowest rating, while Rodrigo Bentancur (5.76) and Arthur Melo (5.86) also endured indifferent campaigns.
