Chelsea have seen their huge €100m offer for Federico Chiesa rejected by Juventus.

The 23-year-old shone during his debut campaign with the Bianconeri and he’ll return to Turin as a European champion after playing a huge role in Italy’s success at Euro 2020. Chiesa scored twice at the tournament after registering 24 goal contributions in all competitions for Juve last season.

The winger garnered the reputation of being a big-game player during the second half of the 2020/21 campaign thanks to his strikes in the Champions League against Porto and winner in the Coppa Italia final. It’s a reputation he enhanced while away with the Azzurri this summer, as he scored in Italy’s round of 16 and semi-final triumphs.

Chiesa’s work in the knockout phase saw him included in UEFA’s Team of the Tournament.

Nevertheless, Chiesa’s prestige has grown exponentially in recent months with Europe’s elite finally starting to take notice.

Chelsea are an unpredictable entity in the transfer market and they’ve certainly raised a few eyebrows with their approach for Chiesa. According to Bild reporter Christian Falk, the Blues offered €100m (£85.2m) as the basis for negotiations, but Juventus have declined to enter talks.

As Fabrizio Romano previously reported when Bayern Munich were supposedly keen in pursuing the electric Italian, the Bianconeri regard Chiesa as “untouchable” and a “key player” in Massimiliano Allegri’s second project at the club.

Following Falk’s report, Romano reaffirmed Juve’s aforementioned stance and said that the club have no intention to open talks with any club for Chiesa, whose value is expected to soar in the coming years.

The 23-year-old joined Juve on a two-year loan deal from Fiorentina last summer, with the Bianconeri paying an initial €10m loan fee to La Viola. The club will pay €40m for Chiesa’s services in 2022 as part of their obligation to buy plus a further €10m in add-ons.
