Juventus, guided by a rejuvenated Massimiliano Allegri, have begun their pre-season campaign in a remarkable manner, winning the first game 3-1 with a team full of teenagers against the grown men of Cesena. The challenge will be much harder next time as they lock horns with Serie B promotion aspirants Monza in the Berlusconi Trophy on Saturday night.

Monza were close to securing Serie A promotion last season, finishing third on the points table and obtaining a place in the promotion play-offs. But, surely they weren’t destined to go past the semi-final hurdle posed before them by Cittadella. Thanks to a 3-2 defeat to Cittadella on aggregate, their dream of playing in Serie A faded away.

Monza will be looking to move closer this time. To clinch a spot in next season’s Serie A, they have already strengthened their squad. Now they desire to gauge their qualities by putting themselves in front of a Juventus side led by a five-time Scudetto winner with the Old Lady at Stadio Brianteo.

Therefore, it won’t be an easy task for the visiting side. On the other hand, the game would help Juventus prepare themselves for the upcoming season. Juventus have some players who need to prove themselves yet again in the eyes of their new manager.

#3 Merih Demiral

Having experienced a miserable campaign with Turkey in European Championship this summer, Merih Demiral has returned to the camp, getting ready to ply his trade for the Bianconeri.

Even though there have been reports linking him with a move away from Turin, La Gazzetta dello Sport (via @BianconeriZone Twitter) has claimed that Demiral will start the game against Monza on Saturday.

He could make a positive impact on the mind of those watching the game and grading his every move. An assertive outing from the Turkish international could convince Allegri to keep him in his plans for the upcoming season.

If everything goes as planned, Demiral would be up against Monza’s Mirko Maric. Maric has already netted eight goals in his two previous friendlies. Facing an in-form striker like Mirko Maric should be what Demiral needs to impress the gaffer.
