Juventus are confident of Paulo Dybala renewing his contract after they met with the player’s agent on Saturday morning.
Dybala and Juventus are yet to agree to a contract extension this summer, with his current deal expiring next summer.
Jorge Antun, the Argentine’s agent’ arrived in Turin two weeks ago in a bid to resolve the situation, but he was forced to quarantine for ten days as a result of Italy’s COVID regulations.
The two parties were able to meet on Saturday and although an agreement wasn’t reached, the feeling leaving the meeting was overwhelmingly optimistic on the club’s behalf.
What was discussed?
According to TuttoJuve’s Mirko Di Natale, Juve director Federico Cherubini and vice-president Pavel Nedved met Dybala’s agent Antun and manager Carlos Novel in Turin on Saturday morning.
The meeting ended on a positive note, with the atmosphere throughout described as “relaxed and optimistic”. However, no figures were discussed as it was a mere “introductory meeting”. Nevertheless, Gianluca Di Marzio reports that Juventus are willing to offer La Joya a deal worth around €8m/yr until 2025, with the option of a further year’s extension.
Romeo Agresti, meanwhile, adds that the club reiterated to Dybala’s entourage of their plans to make the Argentine a cornerstone of Massimiliano Allegri’s second project in Turin.
What happens next?
Dybala is yet to appear in pre-season for Juve after he suffered a minor muscular problem in the build-up to the 3-1 victory over Cesena. The playmaker isn’t expected to take part in Sunday night’s Joan Gamper Trophy clash against Barcelona, but it’s understood that the injury will not see him miss the start of the Serie A season.
Regarding his contract situation, Juve have arranged another meeting with the player’s entourage for the middle of next week and following their successful encounter on Saturday, there’s hope that a deal can finally be struck.
