Juventus youngster Felix Correia has joined Serie B side Parma on loan.
The Lisbon-born Correia made his senior debut against Udinese last season after starring for the Under-23’s in Serie C. The winger notched 13 goal contributions in 28 appearances and was looking to make the step up in 2021/22.
He appeared in Juve’s opening two pre-season contests of the summer against Cesena and Monza but wasn’t in the squad for the Joan Gamper Trophy defeat to Barcelona last Sunday. It appears the 20-year-old hasn’t quite done enough to convince Massimiliano Allegri of his potential to enjoy a breakthrough campaign in Turin, with a loan move to Parma on the horizon.
The reports
While there has been no official confirmation by either club, Nicolo Schira tweeted on Thursday night that Correia to Parma is a “done deal”. It’s a loan move with an option to buy, with the deal completed by agent Alessandro Lucci.
Sky Italy (via JuveFC) had earlier reported the potential deal, while the cryptic tweet distributed by Parma president Kyle Krause all but confirmed the news.
Are Juventus making a mistake?
While Correia certainly had the potential to make the step up this season, this is a loan move that he’ll greatly benefit from. The raw 20-year-old will develop immensely playing week in, week out for a side with aspirations to immediately return to Serie A. Refinement is inevitable.
However, you can only feel that the club are making an error by inserting an option to buy clause in the deal. At this stage, we’re unsure what the option fee will be, but a minor figure is likely.
Thus, while we’re not projecting Correia to be a superstar, he certainly has the capacity to emerge as a fine player at the highest level.
Overall, this seems to be a bit of a giveaway by the Bianconeri. Although, the entire terms of the deal are yet to manifest.
