Cristiano Ronaldo has bid farewell to Juventus in a heartfelt Instagram post.

The 36-year-old is leaving the club three years after arriving from Real Madrid in a monster €100m deal. He claimed two Scudetti in Turin, became the fastest ever Juventus player to 100 goals and was crowned Capocannoniere during his final season at the club.

However, he recently made clear his desire to leave the Truffle capital before the end of the summer transfer window and Manchester United swooped in out of nowhere to wrap up a deal for their former icon. It’s a quite incredible reunion that absolutely no one foreshadowed.

Nevertheless, after United had announced that Ronaldo would be coming home, the all-time great took to Instagram to say farewell to Juventus and the Bianconeri faithful.

“An amazing club”

The post, a video depicting some of his Juventus highlights, was captioned: “Today I depart from an amazing club, the biggest in Italy and surely one of the biggest in all of Europe. I gave my heart and soul for Juventus and I’ll always love the city of Turin until my final days.

“The ‘Tifosi Bianconeri’ always respected me and I tried to thank that respect by fighting for them in every game, every season, every competition. In the end, we can all look back and realize that we achieved great things, not all that we wanted, but still, we wrote a pretty beautiful story together.

Ronaldo then signed off: “I will always be one of you. You are now part of my history, as I feel that I’m part of yours. Italy, Juve, Turin, Tifosi Bianconeri, you’ll always be in my heart.”

Teammates’ farewells

Paulo Dybala also took to Instagram to bid his farewell to the modern-day icon. La Joya said “it was a pleasure to learn, grow and play with you”, while Federico Chiesa added that it was “an honour” to play alongside Ronaldo. Matthijs de Ligt described the 36-year-old as “the perfect example for every player” in his Instagram post.

Danilo, Leonardo Bonucci, Alvaro Morata, Dejan Kulusevski, Rodrigo Bentancur and Aaron Ramsey were among the other Juventus players to wax lyrical over Ronaldo via social media before wishing him well for the rest of his career.

There’s no denying the impact the Portuguese superstar had on the Bianconeri dressing room. His departure will be hard felt both on and off the field.
