Juventus have confirmed the return of striker Moise Kean from Everton on an initial loan and obligation to buy.

The Italy Under-21 international enjoyed his breakout in Turin as a teenager under Massimiliano Allegri’s tutelage during the 2018/19 campaign. His six goals in 13 Serie A appearances that season were enough to convince Everton to pay £27.5m for his services.

However, Kean struggled to settle on Merseyside and was loaned out for the 2020/21 season to Paris Saint-Germain, where he impressed. Les Parisiens were keen on buying the striker out permanently after he’d netted 13 times in 26 Ligue 1 games but eventually decided against the move.

Juventus, meanwhile, had no intentions of adding another striker to their ranks after bringing in Santos starlet Kaio Jorge, but Cristiano Ronaldo’s exit forced them into action. The club moved quickly to facilitate Kean’s return after Ronaldo had alerted Allegri of his desire to leave.

A deal was agreed in no time and the player completed his medical at Continassa over the weekend. The move has now been made official by Juventus.

Club statement

The Bianconeri wrote on their official website: “Homecoming. This is the perfect phrase to describe Moise Kean’s official return to Juventus from Everton. The 21-year-old returns to the Club, where not only did he take his first steps in professional football, but where he grew up, as a boy and a player, within our youth sector.

“Moise is back and he joins us on loan.”

The 21-year-old returns to the club on a two-year loan deal, although the move could cost Juventus €38m. The Bianconeri will pay a €7m loan fee (€4m this season, €3m next season) and €28m for Kean’s permanent purchase. There are also €3m in bonuses to be paid.

Juventus concluded in their press release: “Now he is back home, and we are ready to welcome him back with great pleasure! Welcome back, Moise!”

Kean is currently away on international duty with Italy’s Under-21’s, but he’ll certainly be in line to make his second Juventus debut when they visit Napoli in two weeks time.
