Ladies and gentlemen, the wait is almost over! The time of the year has come when every man and his dog grows concerned about what they call “FIFA ratings”. Unless your perpetual residence is under a rock (pun intended), you are somehow made aware of it. And the cause of this is a video game named FIFA, which promises to give us, the audience, the virtual experience of a real-life football match.

It is considered one of the biggest and popular titles made by EA Sports over the years. From consoles to PC and now on mobiles, FIFA is available on almost every platform. Whether you have a joystick on your hand or a keyboard under your palm, the video game is a go-to medium, as they claim, to get an expansive idea of the footballing world. It is also an astute way to escape boredom and daily-life chaos and embrace the sheer excitement that it is supposed to offer.

Ever since its inception in 1993, EA Sports have continuously come up with an upgraded version of FIFA each year. And in 2021, they will launch the 28th instalment of the video game with new modes, updated player faces, modernised AI to make the game feel more realistic to its users, a plethora of clubs from different leagues and countries with updated squads, of course, and many more new features. If you are an admirer of football, it is a complete extravaganza.

Other than the eye-catching gameplay and its evergreen, constantly improving manager and online modes, it is the rating of the players revealed by EA Sports before the actual launch of the game that occupies an enormous amount of attention and stirs up serious arguments among football fanatics.

According to some fans, the FIFA ratings indicate how good or bad a player apparently has become over course of a season. As such, EA Sports, like every year, have revealed the top-rated players going to feature in FIFA 22.

What do the FIFA ratings look like this year?

As expected by many even before its unveiling, Lionel Messi, with an overall FIFA rating of 93, tops the list this time as well, followed by Robert Lewandowski with the rating of 92.

Despite scoring 29 goals from 33 games for Juventus en route to becoming the highest scorer of Serie A 2020/21 and being the golden boot winner in the Euro 2020, Cristiano Ronaldo has seen his overall rating getting reduced by one point this year. Among the herd of others, he currently stands with an overall rating of 91.

Kevin De Bruyne, Kylian Mbappe, Neymar Jr, Jan Oblak, Harry Kane, N’Golo Kante, Manuel Neuer and Marc-André ter Stegen have all made their way into a star-studded top ten in this year’s edition.

What about Juventus?

It is unfortunate. But due to the licence agreement with Konami for their trademark title in Pro Evolution Soccer, widely known as PES, Juventus go by the name of Piemonte Calcio in FIFA these days. They have a different club crest as well as kits that don’t match the real ones at all. But all the player faces and their names remain the same.

This year, following the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo in the summer transfer window, Paulo Dybala, Wojciech Szczesny, and Giorgio Chiellini have become the torch-bearers for the so-called Piemonte Calcio. They all are rated as worthy of obtaining 87 points, six points fewer than the leading outlet in the game, Lionel Messi.

Here we list the rating for the rest of the known Juventus players (via Goal.com):

Leonardo Bonucci: 85
Matthjis de Ligt: 85
Federico Chiesa: 83
Juan Cuadrado: 83
Alex Sandro: 83
Alvaro Morata: 83
Manuel Locatelli: 82
Adrien Rabiot: 81
Danilo: 81
Dejan Kulusevski: 81
Moise Kean: 79

What about other Serie A players?

As you may have already found out, there is no Serie A player among the top ten of the FIFA player ratings this year. As far as the Italian top-flight is concerned, those three Serie A players in Juve’s ranks – Paulo Dybala, Wojciech Szczesny, Giorgio Chiellini – have been afforded the highest rating this term, per Goal.com.

Then comes Inter’s Samir Handanović, Milan Škriniar, Napoli’s Lorenzo Insigne, Kalidou Koulibaly, who all boast an overall rating of 86. Lautaro Martinez (85), Stefan de Vrij (85), Sergej Milinković-Savić (85), Matthijs de Ligt (85), Luis Alberto (84), and Dries Mertens (84) have all made it to list of the top 100 players in this year’s FIFA ratings.

EA Sports are yet to unfold all the ratings for the players playing in Serie A. We are also early waiting to know the ratings of the cherished names in the top-tier of Italian football.

Is there anything else I should know?

EA Sports have officially confirmed that four Italian clubs, Juventus, Atalanta, Lazio, and AS Roma, will be integrated as Piemonte Calcio, Bergamo Calcio, Latium, and Roma FC  respectively this year as well.

According to several reports, FIFA 22 is set to launch its demo version at some point this week and are expected to release its original copy two weeks after the launch of its demo version.
