Juventus are hopeful of tying down Paulo Dybala to a long-term contract extension by the end of September, with the player revealing that further talks will be held this week.

The club are yet to reach an agreement with Dybala and his entourage over a new deal, with his current contract in Turin running out at the end of the season. It’s understood that Juve’s reluctance to meet the demands of Dybala’s agent, Jorge Antun, who’d like his client to join Matthijs de Ligt as the highest-paid player at the club, has so far stalled negotiations.

Nevertheless, there’s certainly a willingness on behalf of all parties to reach an agreement soon. Dybala revealed after Juventus’ 3-0 victory over Malmo on Matchday 1 of the Champions League that another meeting was scheduled for later this week.

La Joya has enjoyed a bright start to the season on Massimiliano Allegri’s return to Juventus and is widely considered the leading protagonist in Allegri’s second project at the club. Especially after Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure.

The creative Argentine scored his second of the campaign away at Malmo, as Juve claimed their maiden win of the new season following a slow domestic start. After the match, Dybala revealed that another meeting regarding his contract could take place as early as this week.

“I think there will be a new meeting this week. The directors have changed, so we’ve started from the beginning,” La Joya said to Sky Sport Italia (via Football Italia).

“We hope to reach a happy conclusion, I hope there will be good news soon.”

The numbers

The 27-year-old’s current deal at Juventus sees him earn a healthy €7m salary, but agent Antun is pushing for a €12m salary in his client’s new contract.

The Bianconeri are reluctant to accept such demands in the current financial climate, although the dissipation of Cristiano Ronaldo’s monster wage will certainly lift some restraints. Earlier this month, it was reported that the club were willing to offer Dybala between €9m and €10m-a-year.

With Dybala wanting to stay and lead Allegri’s second project, surely a compromise will be reached in negotiations? All shall be revealed in the coming days, hopefully!
