Juventus will be looking to end AC Milan’s 100% start to the Serie A season when the two sides meet at the Allianz Stadium on Sunday night.

The Old Lady secured their first win of the 2021/22 campaign on Matchday 1 of the Champions League in the week, overcoming Malmo by a comfortable 3-0 scoreline. Alex Sandro, Paulo Dybala and Alvaro Morata were in the goals for a much-improved Juventus.

Milan, on their return to Europe’s premier competition following a seven-year absence, performed valiantly in the Anfield cauldron before eventually succumbing to a 3-2 defeat.

Stefano Pioli’s brave Rossoneri remarkably found themselves 2-1 up at the break following a Liverpool blitz in the opening 30 minutes. However, second-half goals from Mo Salah and Jordan Henderson ensured the Reds picked up a deserved victory.

Nevertheless, Milan, who have picked up three wins from three to start the domestic campaign, will take plenty of positives from the midweek trip.

For Juventus, Sunday’s contest is one they can ill-afford to lose following their woeful start to Serie A. Should Milan pick up all three points, the difference between the two sides would be a massive 11 points after just four matchdays!

Here’s our preview of Italy’s game of the week.

Juventus Team News

Juventus have been handed a big boost in the build-up to Sunday’s bout with Federico Chiesa returning to full training after missing his side’s last two fixtures due to injury. Chiesa is set to make Allegri’s matchday squad although it’s unclear whether he’ll come straight back into the starting XI.

Federico Bernardeschi is also back in contention after missing the trip to Malmo in the week with a minor knee problem.

Kaio Jorge and Arthur Melo remain sidelined for the Bianconeri.

AC Milan Team News

Zlatan Ibrahimovic made his first appearance of the season in Milan’s 2-0 victory over Lazio last weekend, scoring off the bench. However, he missed Wednesday’s trip to Anfield as a precaution (Achilles tendon) and it’s unlikely he’ll start in this one. The superstar Swede should make the bench, though.

Stefano Pioli’s only other injury concern is Rade Krunic, who’s out.

Olivier Giroud could return to Pioli’s XI on Sunday after earning minutes as a substitute against Liverpool.

Stefano Pioli’s Milan are a very good outfit. Well-balanced and tactically astute, they proved they can compete with Europe’s best in the week. Juventus pose an alternate threat to what they experienced at Anfield.

Massimiliano Allegri won’t instruct his side to press with such relentlessness and you can expect a technically proficient Rossoneri to enjoy plenty of the ball on Sunday. Ismael Bennacer and Franck Kessie will remember what having time on the ball is like! The key for the visitors is whether they can slow down the hosts in transition and on the counter-attack.

Overall, this is a tough game to call. However, I just can’t envisage Juventus enduring a winless four-game start to Serie A. It just can’t happen, can it? The Bianconeri looked much more like their usual selves in the week and I think they build on the momentum gained from the Malmo triumph by picking up a huge three points here. Federico Chiesa will be the difference-maker off the bench.

Prediction: Juventus 2-1 AC Milan
