On October 4, Juventus celebrated one year of Federico Chiesa. On that day in 2020, his complexly agreed deal to join the club from Fiorentina was made official.

The Italian arrived in Turin as a raw talent who possessed plenty of sceptics. For some, Chiesa’s inefficiency in the final third was crippling, with his poor decision-making compromising him from reaching the ‘next level’. Whatever that was.

However, as I’m writing now a year later, it’s fair to say Juventus’ apparent gamble on the precocious winger has paid off. Following a slow start to the 2020/21 campaign, Chiesa ignited at the turn of the new year to blossom into a Piedmontese protagonist. His season would end with an impressive 16 Serie A goal contributions before he embarked on a memorable summer with the Azzurri.

Like his maiden season in Turin, Chiesa’s Euros campaign took some time to catch fire. But when it did, we were left marvelling at the Italian’s brilliance. A superstar was emerging in front of our eyes.

It’s been an incredible year for the 23-year-old – for both club and country – and here are his top five moments for Juventus since his arrival.

5. Magical sequence vs Napoli

Juventus’ victory over an in-form Napoli would prove crucial in the Bianconeri eventually securing a Champions League berth.

While Paulo Dybala stole the headlines by scoring a trademark winner on his return from injury, it was Chiesa who set the stage with a dazzling sequence to tee up Cristiano Ronaldo for the game’s opener.

Receiving possession on the right touchline, Chiesa was met by two Napoli players. However, an efficient shift with his third touch was enough to bypass Lorenzo Insigne before a rapid change of direction completely befuddled Elseid Hysaj.

The Italian’s magic gave him time to deliver into the box, and his driven cross was perfect for a grateful Ronaldo, who finished with aplomb.
