Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri has confirmed that Paulo Dybala will miss Sunday’s Serie A clash with AS Roma.

Dybala picked up a thigh strain in last month’s 3-2 victory over Sampdoria and was initially expected to be fit for the bout with the Giallorossi after recovering well over the international break.

The Argentine, who’s expected to renew his contract with the Bianconeri soon, has enjoyed a fine start to the 2021/22 campaign. He’s registered five goal contributions in six Champions League and Serie A appearances.

However, Dybala’s missed Juve’s last two outings and Allegri confirmed in his pre-match press conference for the hosting of Jose Mourinho’s Roma that he won’t return for Sunday’s clash.

Allegri rules Dybala out

When posed the question surrounding Dybala’s fitness, Allegri said he hoped La Joya “will be available within a week, maximum ten days.”

The Juve boss said the 27-year-old wouldn’t be training on Saturday and added he is further behind in his recovery than Alvaro Morata, who picked up a hamstring injury in the Sampdoria triumph.

The Spaniard was expected to return for Juve’s Champions League bout with Zenit in the week, but he could in fact make the squad for Sunday night. Morata will train with the squad on Saturday. However, if he isn’t fit to start, Allegri insisted he’s ready to call upon summer addition Kaio Jorge, who returned from a month on the sidelines before the break.

Before his presser concluded, Allegri reassured that Dybala should return to action soon.

“There is no problem with Dybala, he is respecting his recovery time. It was thought he could gain a few days, but when it comes to muscular problems, it always depends on how the situation evolves,” he said.
