Juventus 1-0 AS Roma: 3 takeaways from Allegri’s triumph over Mourinho
Juventus must not be worried about their performances
Federico Chiesa and Juan Cuadrado were two of the most uninspiring outlets for Juventus on Sunday evening. Due to the shortage of strength in the forward department owing to the injuries to Paulo Dybala and Alvaro Morata (who did start the game on the bench and came onto the field later as a second-half substitute), Allegri was forced to field Chiesa from the beginning. However, the selection of Juan Cuadrado was surprising indeed.
While Cuadrado remained on the pitch for the 90 minutes of the game, the Italian speedster was brought off the field in the 71st-minute. When it comes to making those defence-penetrating runs, Chiesa was highly ineffective. It looked as if he was struggling to cope with the intense nature of the game while he is usually the one who makes things intense for Juventus.
Although it was 4-4-2 on paper from Max Allegri, Juventus, while defending, were structuring themselves in 5-3-2 (akin to what they did in the game against Chelsea a fortnight ago), with Juan Cuadrado dropping deep to help the team defend and sometimes moving forward to utilise his attacking attributes.
Cuadrado, after playing his part for Colombia in the recent round of FIFA World Cup qualifiers, appeared to be exhausted. The same could be said for Chiesa, who was with the Italian national team and playing in the UEFA Nations League during that international break.
So, why should we care? If you are worried about just one poor outing from these two reliable prospects, then you should not really be worried as they just need some rest to freshen up their bodies. They have played regularly which has started affecting their performances, and fatigue has begun to creep in. Some rest would be perfect for them.
