1. The gesture that made Del Piero a hero of Juventus!
At the age of 19, Del Piero left Padova to join Juventus in 1993 and went on to spend 19 campaigns with the Piedmontese side.
Obstacles in the way tested his resolution repeatedly, but he was always loyal to his beloved club. And as a fan, you could only hope for such kind of devotion from a professional footballer.
Del Piero faced the biggest test of his career after Juventus had been relegated to Serie B following the Calciopoli scandal in 2006. A plethora of players chose to part ways with Juventus over sticking with the glum faith of the Italian club in the subsequent summer transfer window. Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Fabio Cannavaro and Patrick Vieira were some of the star players who left Juventus in the darkest days of the history of the football club.
Only a handful of recognisable faces remained, with Del Piero being one of them. In one season in the second tier of Italian football, Del Piero racked up 20 goals and ten assists, ensuring promotion for the club at the first attempt.
Although the whole scenario incited an extremely shameful event for the football club, Del Piero eventually won the hearts of the club supporters by staying put in Turin. And that makes him the greatest of all greats for Juventus.
