Juventus star Paulo Dybala was forced off injured in Argentina’s 1-0 victory over Uruguay on Friday night.

Dybala, making a rare start for his country, didn’t appear for the second half with reports suggesting he had picked up an injury.

La Joya’s 2020/21 campaign was blighted by injury woes and the playmaker’s already missed some action this season as a result of a thigh strain, which he sustained in the 3-2 victory over Sampdoria in late September. The Argentine was out of action for almost a month as a result.

The 27-year-old, who is expected to sign his contract extension with Juve once he returns from Argentina, is the key man in Massimiliano Allegri’s Juve and the Bianconeri can ill-afford to see their sole creator spend more time on the sidelines.

There’s only speculation regarding Dybala’s suspected injury

Dybala played a big role in Argentina’s win over Uruguay as he won back possession before teeing up Angel Di Maria for the game’s only goal.

However, the Juve man was forced off at half-time with a suspected muscle strain, this time in the calf. According to the Argentine press (via Mirko Nicolino), the player was heard saying “I can’t take it anymore, it hurts a lot,” before his withdrawal.

While this report sounds quite sinister, La Gazzetta dello Sport’s Giovanni Albanese appeared much more optimistic. Albanese understands that Dybala was taken off as a mere precaution after feeling some discomfort in the calf. Hopefully, that is the case.

Romeo Agresti, meanwhile, added that Rodrigo Bentancur suffered a left knee contusion in the same game following a clash with Inter Milan’s Joaquin Correa.

Chiellini returns to Continassa

Giorgio Chiellini wisely returned to Continassa after being called up to the Italian national team for their crucial November fixtures. Juventus confirmed that the defender underwent tests at J-Medical that “showed inflammation of the muscle-tendon junction of the left Achilles tendon”.

The club will monitor the veteran daily.

In other injury news, Mattia De Sciglio is continuing his recovery while Moise Kean is back in full training. The Italian forward is set to be available for next weekend’s clash with Lazio.
