Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot has distanced himself from any potential move to Newcastle United by saying he’s “happy in Turin”.

The Frenchman has come under heavy scrutiny this season following two forgettable campaigns after his 2019 free-agent arrival from Paris Saint-Germain. Rabiot has been a regular for the returning Massimiliano Allegri this term but his perpetual ineffectiveness has failed to justify the faith the manager’s shown in him.

Thus, with Allegri seemingly losing patience with the luxury midfielder, reports had emerged of Rabiot leaving the club in the upcoming January transfer window.

Following their Saudi-backed takeover and the incomprehensible riches that come along with it, Newcastle are set to spend big in the winter in a bid to ensure of their Premier League survival. The Magpies currently sit 19th in the table with former AFC Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe succeeding Steve Bruce at the helm.

They’ve been linked with several players across Europe, with one of them being Juventus’ Rabiot. Calciomercato.com speculated that Newcastle were looking at the Frenchman as a potential January addition with the Bianconeri willing to let him depart for €15m.

Rabiot plays down a move away from Juventus this January

Ahead of France’s 8-0 victory over Kazakhstan in Saturday’s World Cup qualifier, in which Rabiot scored, the midfielder asserted that he was keen to stay at Juventus.

Speaking to Telefoot (via Football Italia), Rabiot said: “I’m happy in Turin.” He then added that he sees himself playing for Juventus beyond the 2022 January transfer window: “If I still see myself at Juve? Of course, yes.”

Despite Rabiot’s supposed satisfaction, this is a decision that’s out of his hands. If Allegri deems the Frenchman surplus to requirements, he must be moved on for a fee in January. The Bianconeri are in need of further midfield rejuvenation and clearing out the deadwood, which includes Rabiot, is a brilliant way to start.
