Weston McKennie (CM) – 7.5/10 – McKennie’s off the ball movement was quite brilliant and it was the American who caused Atalanta the most problems before he was forced off just after the hour. Juve had some success progressing upfield via up, back and through passing sequences, and it was McKennie’s perfectly timed third man runs that completed these moves. There was quality as well. His pass to set up Chiesa in the first half was superb.

Manuel Locatelli (CM) – 6.5/10 – Locatelli was the sole member of Juve’s build-up that appeared comfortable in the face of Atalanta pressure. It didn’t phase him. The Italian’s verticality occasionally compromised the visitors’ man-orientation, with his distribution precise for the most part. It was tough in the middle of the park, but the Italian more than held his own and drove Juve forward in some instances.

Adrien Rabiot (CM) – 4/10 – Okay, so it wasn’t the dreaded hybrid role for Rabiot this evening, but it might well have been. Once again, the Frenchman was totally ineffective. Although, he did come close to equalising in the second period, only to be denied by a smart Juan Musso save.
