Weston McKennie’s swift return to fitness leaves Allegri with a selection dilemma in midfield. Who should partner Manuel Locatelli?

McKennie enjoyed a brilliant November and is starting to replicate his early 2020/21 form frequently. He offers an intelligence off the ball that very few can provide, and he’d emerged as a key man in this Bianconeri side before his injury.

The knock kept him out for just one game, but his replacement for it, Rodrigo Bentancur, produced a fine display. The performance was uncharacteristic of the Uruguayan in that he was markedly secure with possession and his efficiency alongside Locatelli allowed Juventus to dominate and control in Salerno.

No player completed more passes than Bentancur (114) in Tuesday night’s win, while only Locatelli (133) had more touches than the Uruguayan (131). He was metronomic and while Allegri will welcome the return of McKennie, Bentancur deserves to keep his place in the starting XI for the time being.
