Juventus are in search of a new left-back for next season and have identified Everton’s Lucas Digne as a potential target.

Massimiliano Allegri currently has several left-back options at his disposal. Alex Sandro has been the first choice for much of the season but Luca Pellegrini is beginning to share the Brazilian’s minutes and appears to be a better option for the time being. The versatile Mattia De Sciglio is also well-suited to playing on the left, while the club currently has Gianluca Frabotta out on loan at Hellas Verona.

Despite Pellegrini’s recent rise and De Sciglio’s dependency (when fit), Juventus will look to sign a new left-back for the 2022/23 season.

According to The Athletic (via @JuveFC), Juventus sporting director Federico Cherubini will identify a replacement for Alex Sandro next season. The veteran Brazilian is a well-respected experienced head in Allegri’s defence, but his decline over the past few years has been distinct.

Sandro is said to be “unsure” as to whether he’ll stay in Turin beyond next summer, with Juve keeping a close eye on Digne’s situation at Everton.

The Frenchman has been one of the Premier League’s top left-backs since he arrived on Merseyside in 2018 and has been capped by France 43 times. However, he hasn’t seen eye-to-eye with new Everton boss Rafa Benitez and he was left out of the Toffees’ 2-1 victory over Arsenal on Monday night.

A recent article from The Athletic details the spat between Digne and Benitez before the game, with the player reportedly frustrated over his current role in the Spaniard’s set-up.

It’s been less than a year since Digne signed a new deal at Goodison Park, but some believe that his relationship with Benitez is broken beyond repair. Thus, an exit from Everton is a possibility either in January or next summer.

Inter Milan are also said to be interested in the French left-back.
