In short, Chiesa’s someone you always want to see playing and, up to this point, injuries haven’t held back the Juventus man too much in his pursuit of superstardom. The 24-year-old’s injury record is pretty clean, although he is currently enduring the most prolonged absence of his career.
Here’s a list of Chiesa’s most notable injuries since he burst onto the scene in Florence.
Federico Chiesa injury history
Federico Chiesa knee injury, January 2022
Chiesa had just returned from injury when he picked up the most serious setback of his career to date. The Italian began 2022 by scoring an equaliser against Napoli before setting up Paulo Dybala in the first half against AS Roma.
However, later on in the opening period against the Giallorossi, Chiesa sustained an injury to his left knee following a challenge with Chris Smalling. He tried to continue, but minutes later, he pulled up again in considerable pain after attempting to burst away from Ainsley Maitland-Niles.
It was later revealed by Juventus that the winger would require surgery after suffering an “injury of the anterior cruciate ligament”. The injury will keep Chiesa out of action for at least six months.
Federico Chiesa hamstring injury, November 2021
The vast majority of the injuries sustained by Chiesa thus far have been minor. However, the 24-year-old picked up his first serious problem in Juventus’ 1-0 defeat at home to Atalanta on 27 November 2021.
Chiesa was brought off at half-time after picking up what was later revealed to be a low-grade tear of the left hamstring and, as a result, he would be out of action until 2022.
He has missed seven games since. Although, Juventus have coped admirably in his absence. In fact, they didn’t lose while Chiesa was sidelined; winning six of the seven fixtures.
Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri is confident he’ll have the winger back after the winter break.
Federico Chiesa hamstring injury, April 2021
Chiesa’s first hamstring problem was also sustained in a 1-0 defeat to Atalanta. This time, he pulled up short and limped off in Bergamo before the hour mark.
This issue was only minor, however, and he missed just three games as a result. In his absence, Juventus picked up a draw away at Fiorentina in between victories over Parma and Genoa.
Federico Chiesa calf injury, November 2019
Former Fiorentina boss Vincenzo Italiano slammed Chiesa’s fitness during this period, claiming that the player wasn’t doing well “physically or mentally”.
The then newly-emerging Italian international picked up a minor calf problem in training as Fiorentina prepared for a trip to Hellas Verona. They lost 1-0 with Chiesa an unused substitute. The winger then missed a shocking 1-0 home defeat to Lecce before returning a week later for a 2-1 loss at Torino.
Chiesa registered an assist on his return.
