Arthur staying in Serie A is on the cards.

Lazio have been loosely linked with the Juventus midfielder since the summer, with initial reports suggesting an exchange (what is it with Arthur and swap deals?) that’d see Arthur join Lazio with Sergej Milinkovic-Savic moving in the opposite direction being a potential option.

That won’t happen, but he could still make the switch to the Italian capital this January.

Stylistically, he’s a brilliant fit for Maurizio Sarri. His profile isn’t too dissimilar to Chelsea’s Jorginho, who evolved into one of Serie A’s best under the current Lazio boss at Napoli. Jorginho was the lynchpin of Sarri’s brilliant Napoli side, and the current Biancocelesti boss is still searching for his efficient metronome at the base of his midfield triumvirate.

Daniele Cataldi has usurped veteran Lucas Leiva as Lazio’s holding midfielder and while the 27-year-old Italian is a steady and reliable option, Arthur is the ideal Sarri metronome if he’s able to rediscover his Catalonian form.

For a reduced fee, this is a move that should intrigue Sarri and the Biancocelesti.
