Juventus: 6 targets for 2022
4. Sign either Dusan Vlahovic or Gianluca Scamacca in the summer
Juventus’ current striker situation deserves a Netflix series. Just recently, we were given a huge twist in the saga: Alvaro Morata is close to becoming a Barcelona player. Juve just need to find a replacement.
Now, we shouldn’t expect that replacement to be the star long-term number nine that we’re all craving. Prising away a team’s leading forward midway through the season is a tough ask. Alas, pursuing a stop-gap option is the right move in January. Someone of Mauro Icardi’s ilk would be ideal with Allegri supposedly demanding a ‘pure nine’.
Nevertheless, a short-term answer to the current predicament gives the club six months before they have to reassess the situation. Ideally, in the summer, the Bianconeri sign the striker that’ll be scoring for fun in Piedmont for the next decade. Fiorentina’s Dusan Vlahovic is the fantasy, but that deal will be so difficult for Juve to pull off financially.
An alternative, however, is Gianluca Scamacca. The technical target man certainly won’t come cheap, especially if his fine form persists until the end of the season, but this will be a much easier move for Juve to pull off – providing that they can fight off Inter’s resistance.
Securing a prolific number nine is the crown jewel in Juve’s rebuild.
