Just when you thought the Dusan Vlahovic dream was all over!
The Fiorentina striker is the name occupying every transfer rumour across Europe right now with a multitude of clubs interested in acquiring his services in 2022. Last Autumn, it was revealed that Vlahovic would not renew his current contract in Florence and La Viola have since been proactive in their attempts to sell the club’s most prized asset for a lucrative fee.
Alongside Juventus, north London clubs Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur have been heavily linked for the 21-year-old hitman. Arsenal are particularly keen on bringing Vlahovic to the Emirates in January with the Gunners reportedly willing to match Fiorentina’s hefty valuation of the player.
However, Vlahovic, who currently co-leads the Serie A scoring charts with Ciro Immobile, is understood to be favouring a move away in the summer as opposed to this month.
Dusan Vlahovic wants to join Juventus
The 21-year-old eventually scored his 17th Serie A goal of the season on Monday night as Fiorentina thrashed Genoa 6-0. His apologetic gesture after the goal was a result of his earlier missed Panenka. He was not waving goodbye to the Viola faithful, as some have suggested.
Vlahovic is desperate to be crowned Capocannoniere this season which makes a move abroad unlikely. Despite Arsenal’s strong push for the forward, you get the feeling that the young striker isn’t sold on a move to north London.
And according to La Gazzetta dello Sport’s Giovanni Albanese (via @JuveFC), Vlahovic has instead expressed his interest to sign for Juventus. Adding fuel to the fire, Frank Leonetti (via @JuveFC) reported on Monday that Juve’s sporting director, Federico Cherubini, met with one of Vlahovic’s agents last Thursday.
Nevertheless, even if contact between Juve and the player’s entourage remains strong, this deal will still be an incredibly difficult one for the Bianconeri to pull off considering the finances involved. It’s this sticking point that seemingly forced Juve to seek alternative options.
The Old Lady want to sign their next long-term number nine in the summer and they’d sounded out Sassuolo’s Gianluca Scamacca as a potential alternative to Vlahovic. But, if Juve believe they can somehow fund a move for the towering Serb, he will surely re-emerge as the club’s priority target.
The dream isn’t dead yet, folks!
